What is college Boot Camp?

College Boot Camp is a 10-session seminar designed to equip young christians for the challenges they will face when they go off to college. The course includes recorded video presentations of the seminar, lab-work and exercises, and optional participation in a community forum.

It is not primarily an apologetics course, though several of the CBC topics are apologetic in nature. However, students must be prepared both intellectually and spiritually for the rigors of higher education. We do teach strategies for talking--and relating--to college professors and other students. But thriving in college as a Christian student is not a matter of winning arguments. It is a matter of maturing in one’s identity in Christ. It also involves recognizing one’s weaknesses, learning to see how we are shaped by our culture to accept wrong premises and to respond foolishly to peer pressure.

In short, College Boot Camp is an inoculation against common secular lies, and preparation to be an ambassador of Love and Truth to one’s peers.

Who is it for?

It was designed primarily for christian high school students about to enter college for the first time. It is appropriate for both the Junior and Senior year, and would also be helpful for christian college students struggling with the secular pressures of campus life.

Why is it necessary/important?

Most christian students do not understand the pressures they are exposed to on campus. They know what they feel and experience, but they aren’t prepared to handle it.

College Boot Camp gives students the tools they need to make informed choices, to evaluate secular philosophies and measure their conduct by absolute standards.

These things are important because the choices college students make will impact them for years. For instance, 40% of college students leave campus without a degree. And three in four christian students no longer consider themselves christians by the end of their first year.

What does it include?

Ten (10) recorded seminar sessions on DVD
5 DVDs plus 1 CD rom with extras
Accompanying labs, exercises and videos.
Bonus session: “Surviving a Christian college with your faith intact.”
Bonus e-book for parents
FREE (optional) one year membership to the CBC online community.

How does CBC differ from the Bible teaching kids may have received in church?

CBC makes no attempt to be a substitute for church activity or bible teaching. In truth, it isn’t really “bible teaching.” It is not a series of sermons; it does not rely on the bible to rebut the claims of humanists.

CBC is a series of classes designed to prepare students for the campus environment. Our goal is to make students aware of what sort of pitfalls await them and equip them to handle spiritual adversity. We offer strategies for dealing with the destructive forces of a relativistic culture.

The teaching kids receive in church is often inadequate to prepare them for life at college. This is not a knock on local churches. Most congregations are simply not dealing with the same issues college students must face; they have no reason to consistently address such issues as “how to respond to hostile professors” or “ways christians are silenced on campus.” CBC has a very specific focus and is custom made for students who are planning to attend college.

When one is immersed in a humanist culture dominated by relativism, such things become very important.

How does CBC differ from other worldview courses?

Most worldview courses are more about the various unbiblical ideas students will face and why they are wrong.

CBC focuses on the college environment. We expose the effects of that environment and show you how most people react to college culture in detrimental ways. We do look at some apologetic material, but our emphasis is on practical strategies for dealing with life as a student. Some of the topics we cover include:

Very simple ways to make sure you get better grades.
Debunking anti-Christian lies in a spirit of love.
Pointing out how we are all brainwashed by our culture.
We try to show students ways they can relate to other students and professors without compromising their faith...ways they can live as ambassadors of Christ...ways they can recognize and expose destructive lies in the humanistic culture of the campus. In other words, we show how typical challenges to a christian’s faith are made, and offer strategies for responding both publicly and privately.

Stand strong. Live well.
